Speaker Bios
Sean Maloney
Sean Maloney is Executive Vice President and General Manager, Intel Communications Group. He has been with Intel since 1982. Maloney began his Intel career in its European headquarters where he spent nine years, first as Intel UK's Manager of Applications Engineering, then as Country Manager of Intel UK, and Director of Marketing for Intel Europe. From 1992 to 1995, Maloney served as Technical Assistant to the Chairman and Chief Executive of Intel, Dr. Andrew S. Grove.
In 1995, Maloney moved to Hong Kong to manage Intel's sales and marketing activities in Asia Pacific. In 1998 Sean returned to the US to become head of Intel's worldwide sales organization. He was promoted to Senior Vice President in January 1999, and Executive Vice President in January 2001. He took over as head of Intel Communications Group (ICG) in April 2001. Maloney is a member of the Board of the US/China Business Council, a member of the International Council, Insead, Paris, and is an alumnus of Stanford Business School and Insead, Paris.
Avril Salter, Ph. D.
Dr. Salter has 18 years experience in the wireless industry. She has led senior technical and executive positions in major corporations and start-ups. She currently works in Intels Broadband Wireless Division, holding the position of Carrier CTO. She was part of the first GSM phone call in 1991 and part of the first CDMA system rollout in China. She has an equally long history in wireless data, where she worked on the early proprietary Wireless LAN technologies, wireless media gateways, and Wireless IN solutions. Dr. Salter holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Reading University in the UK, and currently resides in California. She is published in Encyclopedia of Telecommunications, International communications Update, IEEE and several wireless publications.
Randall Schwartz
Randall Schwartz recently joined Intel as the WiMAX Strategic Planner focused on the strategic direction for broadband wireless products. Prior to Intel, he was Director of Business Development for BeamReach Networks, a leading broadband wireless solution provider. Schwartz brings 20 years of experience, both in the semiconductor industry and broadband wireless, and has held engineering, marketing, business development and consulting positions with Texas Instruments, ATT- Microelectronics, PA Consulting, and Trimble Navigation. He holds both undergraduate and graduate engineering degrees from Dartmouth College.
Mohammed Shakouri, Ph. D.
Dr. Mohammad S. Shakouri, AVP of Business Development of Alvarion, has 20 years of experience in wireless system, microwave and fiber optic networks. Previously 3 years at Lucent, Shakouri was responsible for managing, building and developing network solutions for European and South American broadband wireless markets. He spent 14 years in technical and management positions with Hewlett Packard developing microwave and fiber optic communication components and systems. He co-founded the wireless systems division, where he was responsible for the engineering team developing low cost residential digital wireless systems for US and Asian markets. Shakouri earned his doctorate in electrical engineering from Stanford University on Subpicosecond GaAs Wafer Probe Systems. He is WCAi and WiMAX Forum Board member & VP Marketing and IEEE MTT-SVC Chairman.
